The Tenth q-bio Summer School - Albuquerque: Computer Lab 20
From Q-bio
Modeling approaches to describe multiscale dynamics
Ruian Ke (North Carolina State University)
In this computer lab, I will introduce several commonly used modeling approaches to describe multi-scale dynamics, ranging from deterministic approaches, e.g. multi-staged ODE models and PDE models, to stochastic and individual-based approaches, e.g. agent based models. I will particularly focus on the underlying assumptions of these approaches and when these assumptions hold and do not hold. Students will have hands-on experience with coding these models (in R) and compare their pros and cons in terms of accuracy and computation cost.
