The Sixth q-bio Summer School
The q-bio Summer School is an annual three-week event intended to advance predictive modeling of cellular regulatory systems by exposing participants to a broad survey of work in quantitative biology as well as providing in depth instruction in modeling techniques relevant to specific areas. The areas that will be covered this year including stochastic gene regulation, cell signaling, viral dynamics, biomolecular simulations, computational neuroscience and synthetic biology. Participants will attend two daily core lectures in the morning and a lab in the afternoon. The core lectures will tend to cover theory and modeling of cellular regulatory systems/networks. The labs are hands-on and more specialized. Students will work on projects individually or in small teams under the guidance of the summer school faculty. The summer school is designed for graduate students, postdocs, or anyone with a quantitative background who is new to modeling cellular regulatory systems/networks. Students will participate in the The Sixth q-bio Conference. Core lectures will take place on two campuses (in Santa Fe and San Diego). All students will attend the Student Symposium in Santa Fe, which will feature student project reports and seminar-style talks. The q-bio Conference takes place in Santa Fe.
The q-bio Summer School is not affiliated with arXiv.q-bio.

Locations
The school will take place on two different campuses from July 22 through August 4. There will be joint sessions on August 6 and 7 in Santa Fe. All students will then attend The Sixth q-bio Conference in Santa Fe (August 8-11).
St. John's College, Santa Fe, New Mexico
St. John's College in Santa Fe will host the NM branch of the 6th annual q-bio Summer School as well as the q-bio Conference. Four overlapping themes will be available to students at this branch: Cell Signaling, Stochastic Gene Regulation, Biomolecular Simulations, and Viral Dynamics. Enrollment is limited.
Campus Description. Nestled at 7,300 feet above sea level in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the 250-acre Santa Fe campus offers both spectacular scenery and cultural attractions. Santa Fe is the capitol city of the state of New Mexico with a population of 65,000. It has been a Spanish colonial town, a frontier town, and was and still is a center for indigenous culture. Santa Fe is 57 miles from Albuquerque, the nearest metropolitan area. Nearby airports are SAF and ABQ.
University of California, San Diego, California
We are excited to announce that this year, the q-bio Summer School will expand to a new branch with two new themes: Computational Neuroscience and Synthetic Biology. Enrollment is limited.
Themes
The school will comprise overlapping series of lectures and several major themes (e.g., stochastic gene regulation). A prospective student should have research interests in one of the following areas.
- QB1, Stochastic Gene Regulation (Santa Fe, NM)
- QB2, Cell Signaling (Santa Fe, NM)
- QB3, Biomolecular Simulations (Santa Fe, NM)
- QB4, Viral Dynamics (Santa Fe, NM)
- QB5, Synthetic Biology (San Diego, CA)
- QB6, Computational Neuroscience (San Diego, CA)
Theme lectures will take place on weekdays from July 23-27 and July 30-August 3. All students will participate in the Student Symposium (August 6 and 7, 2012, Santa Fe, NM).

Important Dates
The Sixth q-bio Summer School is scheduled for July 22-August 7, 2012. After the school, students will attend the The Sixth q-bio Conference, which is scheduled for August 8-11, 2012 with satellite workshops on August 12, 2012. The deadline for summer school applications has passed.
