In gene regulation models, the level of transcription factor (TF) at the midpoint in promoter activity is often equated with the apparent dissociation constant of the TF-promoter interaction (which might be measured, e.g., using an in vitro protein-DNA affinity assay). When is this assumption true? When might it be false?
